Outside of Daugavpils in the far eastern part of Latvia lies the Pogulianka Forest where German Nazi Troops in November 1941 murdered more than 11000 Jews and buried their bodies in shallow mass graves. Children and adults were shot, babies were simply thrown in the pits and buried alive.

Some people talk about how sorrow can seep into and affect the psychical surroundings of a place where horrible things have taken place. One thing is for sure, it was a strange experience being in the forest, haunting but also peaceful and spiritual in a strange way, knowing what took place some 70 years ago.
